If you wonder what it’s like to be an Uber driver, you should try the company’s recently released UberDRIVE mobile game.
Available exclusively for iPhones from the USA Apple iTunes Store and initially featuring content for San Francisco only, the game aims to familiarize people with Uber as well as honing current Uber drivers’ navigation skills.
The purpose of the game is simple: the player is an Uber driver-partner who helps riders get from A to B and earns high scores for finding the safest and most efficient routes to their destinations.
Players interact with maps by tapping on intersections and identifying various landmarks around the city. High scores can be earned by accepting trip requests in dispatch zones, while players who take more efficient routes earn higher scores.
To keep motivation going, players who consistently earn high ratings will be able to unlock new cars and new areas of San Francisco to explore. Uber has also added educational elements to help enhance city knowledge, such as fun facts for the most important landmarks in the city and a simple trivia mode where riders quiz players to point out certain destinations on the map.
But beyond the fun factor, UberDRIVE also serves as a recruiting tool for Uber, as players who like what the game is about are invited to make the transition to being a real-life Uber driver-partner. There are links to sign up and start the screening process from directly within the game.
