Alpina came into being in 1965, but it was four years earlier that founder Burkard Bovensiepen first got the idea to upgrade the then new 1500 “Neue Klasse.” The name was given to the company by the founder’s mother who argued that it was easy to pronounce in all languages…
Over the years, the Alpina brand has kept growing and growing, now reaching world wide fame. Their interpretation of current BMW products rivals with what the automaker itself has to offer, but it also fills niches it left untouched – like with the D3 diesel 3-Series.
The company recently celebrated its 50th anniversary and for the occasion an interview with Mr. Bovensiepen was uploaded to the company’s official YouTube channel. Hearing his story, his motivation and how the company started out then expanded more and more is as inspirational a tale as you’ll get out of this industry.
