As far as regional motor racing is concerned, NASCAR is by far the top series worldwide and it’s not just because North America is a large region with a lot of people.

I think NASCAR owes its success mostly to the fact that fans can relate to both the cars (at least their names are the same as some of the most popular models on sale) and the drivers involved in the series. Everything appears to be genuine: the rivalries, the fights, the crashes.

Speaking of NASCAR crashes, I think many people will relate to the incident you’re about to see in the video. The footage shows Clint Bowyer’s No. 15 Toyota entering the pit lane during practice at New Hampshire Motor Speedway when Jeff Gordon’s No. 24 Chevrolet suddenly backs out of its stall.

Despite hitting the brakes, Bowyer had no room to avoid the accident and left some scars on Gordon’s car. While Bowyer’s car sustained minor damage and returned quickly to the track, Gordon’s team spent the rest of the practice trying to fix the damage.

Now replace the NASCAR pit lane with a street in suburban America and Jeff Gordon with a driver that backs out of the driveway without checking his mirrors and you’ll understand why the series is so popular.
