GM announced today that the OnStar service has surpassed 1 billion customer interactions since its first release.
Launched 19 years ago as a service that would place a call from a vehicle when an airbag deployed, OnStar today is offering services like remote unlocking of doors, loading driving directions directly to the vehicle, compiling and sending emails on the vehicle’s mechanical status and even help law enforcement by slowing down the vehicle being pursued.
“OnStar created the original connected car in 1996 and today remains at the forefront of innovation through the services offered in Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac and soon, Opel vehicles around the globe,” said Alicia Boler-Davis, senior vice president, GM Global Connected Customer Experience.
The OnStar service receives a customer call every two seconds, which adds up to about 5 million calls a month. Subscribers can reach out via phone, the RemoteLink mobile app and of course through their vehicles.
To celebrate the occasion, OnStar has provided loyal subscribers in the US, Canada, Mexico and China with a free year of premium OnStar service.
Just try your best not to escape the police if you break the law. Because OnStar is more loyal to the law enforcement than your subscription. Which probably is for the best.
