Need a better seat for Alfa Romeo’s six-cylinder twin-turbo symphony? This video certainly brings us much closer to the real “stage”.
Even though it’s no naturally aspirated V8, the Alfa Giulia QV’s Ferrari-tuned 3.0 liter Twin Turbo V6 unit has a typical Italian roar to it, something that you don’t really get in say, a BMW M3.
To be fair, this is pretty much the same noise you’ve heard in two other previous videos featuring the Giulia Quadrifoglio Verde, however now you get to hear it for longer and get a better understanding of its rev range.
The note isn’t as throaty as what you’d get in an AMG Mercedes or an Audi RS-something, but what it does remind me of is obviously the V6 engine in the Maserati Ghibli S, which also sounds somewhat similar to a V6 Jaguar F-Type, with a strong emphasis on “somewhat”.
Noise aside, the Giulia QV is also quite a strong performer – at least it is on paper. With 510 PS (503hp) and a 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time of just 3.9 seconds, it’s quick enough to put some proper fear into the likes of the BMW M3.
However, the Mercedes-Benz AMG C63 S packs just as much power and will hit 100 km/h about as fast as the Giulia QV, however its 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque might end up giving it a bit more mid-range pulling power.
So based on engine noise alone, and with reviews still quite a long ways away, would you rather listen to the Alfa Romeo Giulia QV for a couple of years, or something more throaty like its Mercedes AMG rival?
