Jaguar has set its sights firmly on Porsche’s 911 with the F-Type, which is now preparing to welcome a new and very powerful member into its growing family named the SVR.
Developed by Jaguar Land Rover’s (JLR) new SVR (Special Vehicle Operations) performance arm, the top dog in the F-Type range will sit atop the 550PS (542hp) F-Type R using an improved version of the firm’s 5.0-liter supercharged V8 returning around 600-horses.
A fresh report from Car magazine, suggests that Jaguar has opted to offer the F-Type SVR exclusively with all-wheel drive to harness all those horses and to better compete against rivals such as Porsche’s 911 Turbo / S and Nissan’s GT-R that come with standard AWD.
If you look closely at our scoop pictures of the development car outside the Nürburgring, you’ll see that the SVR’s aerodynamic package is similar -though, not identical- to the limited production F-Type Project 7 roadster featuring a front bumper with bigger intakes than the R and a lip spoiler, a fixed rear wing and a prominent rear diffuser that houses quad pipes.
The car is also riding on extra fat rubber and big rims through which we catch a glimpse of the large ceramic brakes. Recalibrated steering, 8-speed automatic transmission and suspension systems will help the SVR maximize its potential.
Besides the coupe which was caught here wearing a production body, we’ve also spied Jaguar testing mules of an F-Type SVR Roadster.
