As you may know, the Jeep Grand Cherokee isn’t just a very successful SUV in the US; it’s also quite popular in certain European countries.
However, this is a clear case of “different things to different people”. In this spot, Jeep would have us believe that the Grand Cherokee is the most luxurious vehicle in its class – their exact words.
Well, yes, you could argue that it is if you live in the U.S and you think of the Grand Cherokee as a non-premium SUV, then sure, it’s perhaps more “luxurious” than your average Toyota Highlander.
In the U.S, you can buy a Grand Cherokee for as little as $29,995, whereas in Europe, it can cost anywhere between 48,000 to 55,000, and that’s just as a base spec model. And we’re also talking euros, not dollars.
What this means is that in Europe, the Grand Cherokee is taking on the BMW X5, Audi Q7, VW Touareg, Volvo XC90, Mercedes GLE and so on. It’s a ridiculous price difference that also results in us having to call Jeep out for saying that this is the most luxurious SUV in its class. It’s all relative to where you live.
Personally, I quite like the Grand Cherokee. It really is a very capable SUV, and it has made great strides in terms of interior quality. However, it’s still nowhere near as good as its European rivals.
