With the Nurburgring shutting down Koenigsegg’s attempt to lap the fearsome track, the Swedes turned their attention to the other big cradle of motorsport: Spa-Francorchamps.
Over there, using the outrageously powerful One:1 “megacar” – the same automobile used for breaking the 0 to 300 Km/h to 0 world record – the Swedish car manufacturer managed to set a new lap record for production cars.
Take note: 2:32:14 was all it took this V8 supercharged, lightweight, 1,341 Hp titan to complete a lap…during a practice run. Remarkable as it may sound, Koenigsegg actually broke the previous road legal, production-car lap record at Spa by 5 seconds managing a 2:33:00 time, last month.
A record previously held by the McLaren P1, which means that the One:1 was 5 seconds faster than the British supercar.
What’s even more outstanding is that Koenigsegg came back and managed to take down their own record by almost a second, in a practice lap, using regular street tires. Still, according to the blog, the Swedes reckon they’ve could’ve done better, but the car exceeded the 103Db noise limit imposed on the second day of testing and it was banned from doing a proper record run.
Still, you can see the One:1 pulling over 1.5G’s through the corners while performing its record-braking 2:32:14 practice lap in the video below. But don’t forget, as Koenigsegg states, they can do better and they will do better.
