Even though what Lotus call their “revolutionary” 5-door SUV is more than a couple of years away, it’s never too early to start imagining what it may end up looking like.
Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales described the car as “the world’s first lightweight SUV”, whose name we also know will start with the letter “E”.
A few months ago, Gales was also quoted as saying that the car will be “supple and comfortable but with an emphasis on handling. It will be the lightest and fastest of its class on the track.”
That’s all well and good but if history has taught us anything, it’s that SUV or crossover owners hardly ever take their cars on a race track. Heck, they hardly ever take them off-road!
Labeling your car as a track-oriented SUV will probably win you a whole lot of fans but not a lot of customers – which is what you need, especially when talking about a car that’s expected to become your best selling model.
Also, if the model is indeed to be similar in length and wheelbase to the Porsche Macan, we can definitely quit trying to decide whether to call it a crossover or a SUV. It’s clearly the latter.
As for this rendering…all I can say is that it’s pretty interesting, though a bit too simplistic don’t you think?
The real thing definitely needs to look a lot more dynamic and a lot less like it’s a cute Nissan Juke rival in order for people to take it seriously.
