We can’t say we’re surprised to see that Toyota’s next-generation 2016 Fortuner has been nabbed completely undisguised after it was discovered partially covered on a transport truck on Thursday.
For those of you who are not familiar with the Fortuner, it’s a rugged SUV version of Toyota’s Hilux pickup truck offered in select Asian markets, including Thailand, where it was caught here on camera.
Despite its tough underpinnings, the new Fortuner has a modern exterior that incorporates Toyota’s – and some would say, Lexus’ too – SUV styling elements.
A leaked brochure shot gives us a look at the interior that comes with a modified version of the new Hilux’s dashboard featuring a different center console design. The Fortuner will accommodate up to seven passengers in three rows of seats.
We expect the engine range to mirror the Hilux with a 2.8-liter turbo diesel producing 177hp, a smaller 2.4-liter diesel delivering 160hp and 400Nm (295lb-ft); a 2.7-liter four-cylinder petrol with 164hp and possibly in some markets, a 278hp 4.0-liter V6 petrol.
