It may surprise you, but the Rapid is currently Skoda’s second best-selling nameplate behind the popular Octavia.

Skoda has recently built the 500,000th Rapid model (a red Spaceback) at its Mlada Boleslav plant in the Czech Republic. In addition to the production at the main factory in the Czech Republic, the Rapid is also produced at the sites in Yizheng (China), Kaluga (Russia) and Pune (India).

Bridging the gap between the Fabia and Octavia in Skoda’s lineup, both the sedan and hatchback versions of the Skoda Rapid have been well received by customers worldwide.

The Rapid sedan has been on the market since 2012 in Europe, followed by the Rapid Spaceback from late 2013. Skoda also has been selling an India-specific Rapid version since 2011.

The Czech carmaker has delivered 91,400 Rapid vehicles in the first five months of this year, accounting for an increase of 12.3 percent over the same period last year.

Since May, Skoda has upgraded the Rapid lineup by offering new infotainment systems based on the latest generation of the modular infotainment kit from Volkswagen (MIB II), as well as new assistance systems including Front Assist, multi collision brake, Trailer Stability Assist, fatigue detection, park distance control front and rear, Light Assist and the automatic start and lock system KESSY.

Furthermore, the engine lineup is now fully compliant with the EU-6 standard.
