Seat’s engineers are keeping our spies busy lately, with the Spanish carmaker now scooped testing a heavily disguised prototype of their next VW Tiguan-based SUV.
Much to our annoyance, they’ve done a fine job in keeping the design under wraps, as the only visible elements are the LED tail lamp graphics and the car’s silhouette.
Nevertheless, you should expect to see some design cues from the 2011 IBX study and the 20V20 concept from this year’s Geneva Motor Show making their way on the production model, which has yet to be named.
What you’ll find under the mysterious body is the VW Group’s familiar and ever-present MQB platform architecture used on the Golf-based Leon, among many other models.
The Spanish SUV will offer both two- and four-wheel drive versions powered by a range of three-cylinder petrols and four-cylinder petrol and diesel units, all turbocharged, paired to either manual or dual-clutch DSG transmissions. In the future, Seat may also add a hybrid variant and possibly even a sported-up Cupra edition with one of their higher-output 2.0-liter turbo mills.
While this model is intended to compete in the compact category against cars like the Nissan Qashqai, Seat plans to introduce at least one more SUV in the sub-compact segment to rival the Nissan Juke, and which may be joined later on by a mid-size SUV with seating for seven.
