For some customers, the Smart ForTwo is too small (even for a city car), which is why the Daimler-owned brand also offers the ForFour.
Unlike the previous-generation Smart ForFour, which shared underpinnings with the Mitsubishi Colt, the new one is based on the Renault Twingo. The essential difference between the ForFour and the ForTwo is extra pair of doors, made possible by the increased wheelbase.
However, as Carbuyer’s review shows, the ForFour isn’t what one would call a spacious car, as legroom for rear passengers is quite tight.
But the Smart ForFour compensates with its excellent maneuverability around town, thanks to its small turning circle. Just don’t take it out of town too often, as it feels out of its depth on motorways, just like the ForTwo.
