One of our readers has sent us these shots of what is believed to be the next generation Mazda CX-9. It’s the first prototype we’ve seen of the Japanese firm’s midsize crossover and it was spotted here in the States.
While shrouded in camouflage, the tester give the impression of a far crispier and more dynamic styling that reflects the firm’s Kodo design language – especially up front with the shark-like nose, than the more mundane current model. In fact, it looks much more aggressive than either of Mazda’s smaller SUVs, the CX-3 and CX-5.
Mazda will reportedly replace the V6 engine used in the current CX-9 with a newly developed 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder from their Skyactive family.
From what we’ve heard, the next CX-9 will likely be revealed towards the end of 2015 or early 2016 and go on sale during the first quarter of next year.
Thanks to Ken for the pictures!
