BMW is said to have set its unveiling date for the M2 sometime in October, which basically means we won’t see it in Frankfurt. The car could appear at a later motor show this year, early next year or maybe be the star of its own unique launch event.
The M2 is causing hype because it’s seen as a kind of spiritual successor to the original E30 M3, and the much-loved 1M. Its small size and lower weight are what make this vehicle highly attractive in concept, although since BMW doesn’t want to bother the more expensive M4, expect it to have some compromises made to be kept underneath that car in the range.
It had better blow your socks off, this new M2, since the M3 and M4 have not been to everybody’s taste. Nobody is denying those two cars’ technical capability and heritage, but many prefer the outgoing generation of M3 for various reasons.
