Spy photos and videos of the facelifted 2016 Porsche 911 are not new, but this latest video is one of the most detailed so far. Spotted in a car park at the Hockenheimring in Germany last month, the 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera S prototype was filmed in detail both on the outside and on the inside.
As you can see, Porsche still disguised the taillights and LED daytime running lights (this was before a blue prototype was spotted on the Nürburgring with uncensored DRLs), but everything else is out in the open. The changes over the current model are really subtle though, with only a trained eye being able to spot them.
Besides the thinner LED DRLs and refreshed taillights, changes include new headlights, a redesigned front bumper, different door handles, a restyled rear bumper with central-mounted pipes, as well as a more retro treatment for the engine vent cover with vertical slats.
Inside, the 2016 Porsche 911 gets a newly styled steering wheel, a larger touchscreen for the PCM infotainment system and new switchgear on the center console.
More important changes are coming from a technical point of view, as Porsche is expected to switch to new turbocharged flat-six engines for its base models. There’s nothing official yet, but it’s believed that the facelifted 911 will debut a 2.7-liter unit with around 370PS (365hp) and 450Nm (332 lb-ft) for the Carrera, and a 3.0-liter engine producing about 420PS (414hp) and 510Nm (376 lb-ft) in the Carrera S.
The only models to escape turbocharging are said to be the hardcore GT3 and GT3 RS. Expect more details as we get closer to the 2016 911’s debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
