Hyundai’s latest concept car, the Vision G coupe, is said to preview the company’s future luxury models. It even ditches the Hyundai badge for a winged “Genesis” logo which may preview a luxury sub-brand or brand from the Korean automaker.

Hyundai has previewed the study at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), where the folks from Auto Guide were present to record a video of the Vision G.

The elegant coupe is a showcase for Hyundai’s philosophy of “respectful luxury,” which advocates that luxury doesn’t have to be flashy.

The Vision G is an elegant car, but there’s one design element I don’t quite get: why did they have to place the door handles on the rear quarter panel? It definitely has something to do with the technology that “automatically opens the door as if being opened by a valet.”

Unfortunately, we don’t get to see how that works in the video, but we’ll probably learn more about it on August 16 when Hyundai will showcase the Vision G at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
