Honda has lifted the veils off its seven-seat BR-V Prototype at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show.
The BR-V previews a production crossover for Asian markets that will first launch in Indonesia in early 2016.
Combining the appearance of an SUV with the seven-seat cabin of an MPV, the Honda BR-V is powered by a 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine, mated to either a new 6-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The four-cylinder unit delivers 120hp at 6,600 rpm and 145Nm (107lb-ft) of torque at 4,600 rpm.
Adopting Honda’s current design language, the high-riding BR-V sports the brand’s new grille, LED taillights, roof rails for all grades and new 16-inch aluminum wheels. Honda says it offers a “class-leading spacious and comfortable cabin with additional knee room and head room,” with equipment including Multi-Information Display, as well as rear air conditioning between the first and second row seats.
Safety features include dual and front SRS airbags, ABS and EBD, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist (HSA) and front 3-point load limiters with pretensioner ELR seat belt and ISOFIX.
The Honda BR-V will be priced in Indonesia from 230 million to 265 million rupiah ($16,605-$19,130). Customers in Indonesia can already pre-order the car, which will go into production at Honda Prospect Motor’s Karawang factory in January 2016. Following its debut in Indonesia, the BR-V will be rolled out in other Asian countries as well.
