The latest model of the Nissan GT-R family, the 45th Anniversary limited edition, got summoned to the race track for a very special duel.

In the opposite corner sat its predecessor, the Nissan Skyline GT-R R34, the last GT-R to use the Skyline name. Built in 1999, it’s obviously significantly less powerful and less sophisticated than the latest model.

But we shouldn’t be too quick to rule out the R34. With 276hp from a 2.6-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six cylinder engine, the Skyline GT-R still packs a punch and Steve Sutcliffe genuinely enjoyed driving it on track.

Obviously, 15 years of advancements in technology and 266 extra ponies represent a big advantage for the latest GT-R, but as the reviewer said, the Skyline GT-R “went home with its head still held high.”

We won’t spoil it for you, so head over to the video to find out how much faster the latest GT-R was compared to its predecessor on the track.
