Tuners are always trying to make a statement and that’s why mundane automobiles are rarely featured in their curriculum.
But JMS have just revealed their styling and tuning program for the current-gen Passat, a car that we all can relate to. Like any other Volkswagen, the Passat is fairly accessible and common, being a well sorted compromise between a family car, a classy executive, or any other designation the customer finds suitable.
But then again, this comes with a fundamental flaw (if you can call it that). Since Volkswagen is keeping things fairly conservative in order for the car to have the above mentioned attributes, the Passat is the kind of automobile that no one looks twice at.
But that doesn’t mean a tuner can’t make a great-looking styling exercise out of it, pushing the limits of conformity. And that’s exactly what JMS did with some subtle yet effective changes, that demonstrates the stock Passat isn’t far away from a stunning looking automobile.
The German tuning firm came up with a ‘Racelook Exclusive’ pack that ads a front spoiler lip with an integrated splitter, a KW Variant 3 coil-over suspension that lowers the car up to 50 mm, a “speedpedal” ECU optimization and a sports exhaust systems.
JMS also offers a wide variety of wheels. The 19-inch Barracuda Racing black challenge wheels look apart, but we were dazzled by the crosspoke Barracuda Inferno silver model that costs $2,194. This goes to show a good set a rims, a little low and a frond splitter can dramatically change the overall look of a car.
Mind you, the tuning package is available for the sedan variant as well.
