Renault has pulled the wraps off on what will likely become the most popular variant of its Talisman series, the new Estate that brings added practicality and extra load-carrying ability.
Based on the saloon version that was unveiled on July 6, the new Talisman Estate will go on sale in Europe during the first half of 2016 following its world premiere at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
The Talisman series belongs to the D-Segment which amounts to over a million annual vehicle sales (sedans and station wagons combined) in Europe with estates like the Opel / Vauxhall Insignia Sport Tourer, Toyota Avensis Touring Sport and VW Passat Estate accounting for around 54 percent of that number.
The French firm’s mid-size station wagon features the same extract dimensions as the saloon at 4,860mm long, 1,870mm wide, and 1,460mm tall with a 2,810mm wheelbase.
It offers 572 liters (VDA) of load space up to the parcel shelf with a maximum load length of 1,116mm, which is less than the sedan’s 608 liters, but you can take advantage of the height for taller items, while with the rear seats folded down, that figure increases to 2,010mm, equating to a volume of almost 1,700 liters.
Elsewhere, the Talisman Estate adds polished aluminum roof bars together with a long-lip spoiler and an electric tailgate activated by waving your foot under the bumper at the back. In addition, thanks to the shape of the roof, rear passengers gain 30mm extra headroom over the sedan extending it to 886mm.
Renault’s new station wagon will offer the same range of engines as the saloon. These include the 150PS (148hp) Energy TCe150 and the 200PS (197hp) Energy TCe 200, combined with a 7sp dual clutch EDC automatic transmission, and three diesels, the 110PS (108hp) Energy dCi 110 and 130PS (128hp) Energy dCi 130 mated either to a 6sp manual or 6sp dual clutch EDC, and the 160PS (158hp) twin turbo Energy dCi 160 available exclusively with the EDC.
