Believe it or not, we do know quite a bit about the next-generation Nissan GT-R, but as always, the rumors far outweigh the facts.

What we do know is that it won’t arrive earlier than 2018, and that they’ll keep the 2+2 Coupe formula, despite recent rumors of a GT-R Sedan – which personally I hope never happens…because legacy!

And here’s another fact – we know that it will get a V6 Hybrid unit, probably imported from the GT-R LM Nismo. That engine produces 1,250 HP when out on the track, but the road-going GT-R will probably come with far less than that (possibly even twice as less).

Now we’re entering the realm of speculation though, because Godzilla has never been one to shy away from combat. And seen as though the current model was able to take on just about any supercar on planet Earth when it first came out, Nissan need to keep that trend going.

Except that in order to do that in modern days, 600 HP or so is nowhere near enough. It figures, then, that we should expect a lot more power from that hybrid drivetrain. So, in terms of performance the new model will go under the 2.7 seconds the R35 needs as of right now in order to reach 100 km/h (62 mph).

Another rumor has the new GT-R drawing its inspiration from the Vision 2020 concept. This would be pretty outlandish, in contrast to this rendering, which reiterates the current GT-R’s character in a much more modern package. If you take a close look you’ll find many contemporary Nissan design elements, particularly at the front of the car, while the rear/profile looks a little R34-ish, which is a nice retro touch and a nod to a past legend.
