The current Insignia is on its last legs, apparently.

Believe it or not, Opel’s mid-size executive model is on sale since 2008. That’s 7 years of duty listed on its resume and, according to CAR magazine, it still has a couple more years to go – at least. That’s because the next-gen Insignia is supposed to premier at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2017.

The future automobile is believed to sport details and design cues taken from the superb Monza concept – pictured in the article. Moreover, although the car’s overall dimensions will grow larger (in length and wheelbase especially), the thing will shed considerable kilograms compared to the current model – or at least that’s what the magazine states. Just imagine the new Astra’s 200 Kg loss and think how much excess weight an Insignia can lose with a proper engineering diet.

All in all, the model promises to be a very interesting motoring piece, but there’s a drawback (for some conservative customers):  it won’t come in a 4-door saloon version, allegedly, only in a five-door hatch variant or Sports Tourer estate – compared to the current model which is available in 3 body styles.

That said, with this kind of basic info, we can only imagine the 2nd generation Insignia going for Skoda’s Superb model. Mind you, an extended length and wheelbase will most likely offer tons of leg room and space – not to mention a very bourgeois experience.
