Swedish manufacturer Volvo sold 38,128 cars last month on a global scale, having amassed more than 52,000 orders for the new XC90 SUV.

Even though the U.S market played a big role, it’s important to note the 10.5% sales boost that Volvo saw from European customers, mainly in Germany and Sweden.

Volvo also reported a continued strong demand for ’60-series models, specifically the S60 and the XC60 SUV – two of their most impressive cars.

In Europe as a whole, the XC60 remains the most popular car in its class, and with the XC90 soon to be knocking on the door of its particular segment in terms of strong sales as well, things are looking extremely positive for Volvo.

Of course, China stood out as well in July with 5,832 cars sold, where the locally produced XC60 and S60L models had the most success. In the U.S, sales amounted to 5,617 units (a 14.7% increase compared to the same month last year).

Alain Visser, Senior VP of Marketing, Sales and Customer Service at Volvo Cars, said that the success for the new XC90 is “now starting to show in our sales performance but I am also happy to see that our ’60-series continues to grow in demand globally. With growing sales in the US market and XC90 volumes ramping up I am confident of continued strong sales in the second half of this year.”

Overall, the Volvo XC60 remained the best selling model in July with 12,933 units sold, followed by the V40 and V40 Cross Country, for which deliveries reached 7,096 cars.
