Brabus has transformed the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 Coupe into a road-going beast.
We tend to associate the word “supercar” with a slender, low-down, lightweight, immensely-powerful machine, but Brabus takes our perception of automobiles and throws it down the bin. How else can you explain a GLE 63 AMG suffocated by power and capable of achieving speeds in excess of 320 km/h (200 mph)?
Yes, this 2,350 kg (5,180 pounds) Brabus 850 Biturbo 4×4 GLE monster would have easily cleared the 320 km/h (200 mph) mark if it wasn’t electronically limited for its own good.
Sporting an increased engine displacement (from 5,461 cc to 5,912 cc), new internals, and a pair of turbochargers with larger compressor units, this titan develops 838 horses and a tremendous peak torque of 1,450 Nm (1,069 lb-ft) between 2,500 and 4,500 rpm – enough to send it flying from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.8 seconds. Bentley Bent…what, now?
And no, these modifications don’t come at a cost, as Brabus says it ensures reliability and a three-year/100,000 km (62,000 miles) warranty.
Of course, being a full-on high-performance model, style cues reminiscent of its sheer power bedizen the entire body. Brabus made sure the GLE wouldn’t go unnoticed, but also payed attention to the car’s aerodynamics – as always.
Brabus designers developed high-tech carbon fiber bodywork components for the automobile, including a front spoiler lip (which attaches to the lower section of the bumper), a carbon trim for the side air outlets, and a new diffuser insert for the rear bumper. The car even comes with a wide selection of Brabus alloy wheels, ranging from a “modest” 21-inch set all the way to the donk-ish 23-inch versions.
The BRABUS 850 6.0 Biturbo 4×4 Coupe may seem a dinosaur among state-of-the-art hybrids, but its 838 horses are not as hungry as we thought. In fact, according to the German tuner, the automobile sips only 11.9 l/100 (19.7 mpg) of petrol in the combined cycle, though, we’d love to see you anywhere close to that in the real world…
