The first generation Insignia took some getting used to, especially after everybody in Europe was expecting an all-new Vectra. However, the name change also brought with it great success in terms of sales.
The Insignia is a really popular car, whether you’re looking at the Opel version, the Vauxhall, the Buick or even the Holden, it doesn’t matter. The looks are solid, the tech is solid and the comfort levels are quite high, despite an interior that I always thought was only slightly above average in terms of quality.
Still, this car sold really well, and believe it or not, it’s the second best selling mid-size non-premium saloon in Europe even to this day. This means that when the new model comes out, Opel can’t afford to mess around with the winning formula too much.
Before we get to this rendering, there are a few things we know about the 2017 model, such as the fact that it will allegedly be available only as a 5-door hatchback and an Estate. This doesn’t come as a shock though, especially since said 5-door hatch will probably look more like a 4-door coupe…with a hatchback.
We also know that it will be a lighter car, just like how the new Astra came out lighter than the old model.
Hopefully it won’t have too many traits in common with the Astra, but if it ends up looking a lot like this rendering, my guess is that most people would be pretty pleased.
As far as I can tell, the profile seems sleek enough and the rear is pretty sweet. The front fascia might need more work, but we’ll just have to wait and see if the real car’s overall design is going to be revolutionary or evolutionary.
