As Mercedes-Benz has recently unveiled an all-new C-Class Coupe, the folks from AMG’s racing division set out to transform the new model into a DTM racer for the 2016 season.

The result is called the 2016 Mercedes-AMG C63 DTM and will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this month. The automaker has already offered a preview of the car today, along with the reveal of the C63 Coupe Edition 1 version.

Compared to the model currently used in the DTM, the 2016 C63 DTM features design changes aimed at demonstrate the connection with the production model.

These include new headlights and taillights, as well as the twin blade AMG grille. The body is wrapped in an extreme aerodynamic package typical of DTM cars. Mercedes says the first tests with the new race car will take place during the winter as part of preparations for the 2016 season.

“The 2016 version of the Mercedes-AMG C63 DTM looks really good. Obviously, many parts are similar to those on the current car, but the new shape is really cool and simply shows that the Mercedes-Benz and AMG road versions are getting better and more beautiful with every stage in their evolution,” said Mercedes-AMG DTM driver Gary Paffett.

The 2016 Mercedes-AMG C63 DTM is powered by a race-tuned version of the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine producing 483hp (489PS) at 7,500 rpm and a peak torque of 500Nm (369lb-ft). The engine is mated to six-speed transverse-mounted sequential gearbox.
