VW announced that order books for its new family carrier are now open, along with further range details.

The all-new Touran is based on the VW’s modular MQB platform which allowed for overall weight savings of up to 62kg while the new range of engines is up to 19 per cent more efficient, with CO2 emissions from 111g/km.

The smaller weight figure is even more impressive if you consider the increase of the new Touran’s size, as it stands 130mm longer than the previous model, with 113mm of them coming from the extended wheelbase.

With the two rear rows of seats folded, the new Touran has a cargo capacity of 1857 litres with VW claiming a best-in-class luggage compartment. There are 47 storage compartments overall scattered around the cabin to ensure maximum practicality.

Customers can choose between two petrol and three diesel engines, all of them Euro6-compliant. The petrol engines are a 108hp 1.2-litre TSI offered only as a six-speed manual and a 148hp 1.4-litre TSI that can be paired with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG transmission. The most popular diesel options include a 108hp 1.6-litre TDI, a 148hp 2.0-litre TDI and the range-topping 187hp 2.0-litre TDI which is offered exclusively with the seven-speed DSG ‘box.

The new VW Touran also offers the latest in connectivity features, with real-time information delivered straight to the infotainment’s display, including the App-Connect which integrates Apple’s CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink.

The order books are now open, with the prices starting at £22,240 for the 1.2TSI model and £22,840 for the 1.6TDI model. The first UK deliveries are expected in December.
