Seat announced an update for the hot Leon Cupra, which now features a headline figure of 286hp (290PS).
Replacing the 276hp (280PS) version, the new Cupra 290 will be available in the same three different body styles: the three-door Sport Coupe, five-door hatchback and the practical estate ST version.
Performance-wise, Seat says that the classic procedure of 0-100km/h (0-62mph) is unaltered when compared with the previous 280 version, meaning 5.7 seconds when equipped with the optional DSG transmission, with the manual version requiring 5.8 seconds. The only difference is that now the 350Nm (258 lb ft) of maximum torque is available on a broader rev range from 1,700 to 5,800 rpm. Top speed remains governed at 250km/h (155mph).
At the same time, fuel economy is rated at a combined 6.6 l/100km (42.8mpg UK) for the three-door SC model with the DSG ‘box and 6.7 l/100km (42.1mpg UK) with the manual transmission. CO2 emissions are 149 g/km and 156 g/km, respectively.
The updated Leon Cupra 290 now features the DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control), the front differential lock and progressive steering as standard. The full-LED headlamps and the LED rear lights are also standard equipment. Seat will continue to offer the Performance pack as an option, which includes a set of Brembo brake calipers, an exclusive wheel design and stickier tyres.
The Cupra Drive Profile allows the driver to tailor the car’s settings to his preferences, with Comfort, Sport and Cupra modes available. Seat also offers as an option a set of even sportier bucket seats with the standard items dressed in Alcantara. Three individualization options are available (White Line, Black Line and Orange Line) which feature exterior details painted in the respective colors.
