Fiat not only dropped the first teaser of their upcoming pickup truck today, but they also confirmed its name as the ‘Toro’.
It will launch early next year in South America, with Fiat stating that it will “debut a new segment,” that of the “Sport Utility Pickup or SUP,” combining the “strength and characteristics of a truck” with “all the comfort features and drivability of an SUV”.
We’re not so sure about Fiat’s claims about inventing a new category, as we’ve seen similar claims from other makers about their pickup trucks incorporating SUV attributes and the opposite more times than we can remember, but we’ll withhold judgment until we see the Toro in the flesh.
The darkened teaser image suggests that the Toro will have a sharp looking front with some references to last year’s Fiat FCC4 four-door pickup truck concept placed on a more conventional body, as seen in our scoop photo below.
No other details have been released with the picture, but the internet rumor-mill is saying that the Toro will launch in South America with an entry-level, bi-fuel 1.8-liter engine producing around 140-horses in both two- and four-wheel drive setups.
