Martin Winterkorn, the chief executive officer of VW, is coming under serious fire after the recent emissions faking issue.

German sources are now reporting that he may, in fact, be relieved of his duties with the company this Friday.

Website TheLocal.de quotes regional daily newspaper Tagesspiegel which suggests that Winterkorn is no longer viewed favorably by the six-member steering committee of the VW board. Remember that previous attempt this year to have him removed by then supervisory board chief Ferdinand Piech?

He was not pleased with Winterkorn’s performance particularly on the US market, and now that this humongous scandal has come along it could very well be the final chapter.

Apparently, the board is meeting on Wednesday (tomorrow) to decide the CEO’s fate.

His replacement, according to the same source, is slated to be Matthias Muller who currently heads Porsche.
