Volkswagen is one automaker that’s really been bitten hard by the green bug as it’s now announcing 20 new electric or electrified vehicles by the end of the decade.

In the words of VW CEO Martin Winterkorn, they “are in the process of reinventing Europe’s largest automaker, laying the technological, economic and structural foundations. No commitment to electro-mobility can be any clearer than that.”

He reminds the industry that VW has “the largest connected vehicle fleet on the road,” and that by 2020 they will have transformed all their new cars into smartphones (yes, actual smartphones on wheels, as if that wasn’t a big enough cliché already…).

Basically, he’s announcing the digitalization of VW,  in the quest to lead the way in this (inevitable) direction the industry is already going in.

Winterkorn didn’t say which new models they were going to launch, but since it’s the entire VW group he’s talking about, it’s not hard to think of a few. One of which is surely the electric SUV from Audi that’s set to be revealed at the Frankfurt motor show.
