Owning a Ferrari means that you’re playing in the big league. However, obtaining the Italian car manufacturer’s finest, most exclusive and rarest automobiles straight out of the box means that there’s something more about you besides money.
Don’t get me wrong, buying a Ferrari 599 SA Aperta back in the day – when it was launched – was a privilege for those with deep pockets, but even so, Ferrari reserved the automobile for just a few important clients, as only 80 example were built (and all of them were sold before the production even started).
Of course, nothing has drastically changed since then, as the model is still wildly expensive, but at least you don’t have to pass Ferrari’s screening process to get one.
Take for instance this “Rosso” beauty. It only has 4,786 km (2,873 miles) on the clock and it was gorgeously commissioned. For instance, instead of the regular raw-aluminum knobs, interior trim pieces and paddle shifters, it features a “piano black” finish. Moreover, the red interior accents complement the overall classic, exterior hue.
The car is governed by “Easter eggs”, hiding interesting details in its name and concept. The SA Aperta was built in only 80 units to honor and celebrate Pininfarina’s 80th anniversary in 2010. The “SA” nomenclature pays homage to both Sergio and Andrea Pininfarina and, unlike the “regular” 599 GTB, the sleek roadster is powered by a 599 GTO-spec V12, producing 661 hp and 620 Nm (457 lbft) – enough to ensure a 3.2 second time from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) and a top speed of 325 km/h (202 mph).
Bonhams is currently will be offering this superb machine at the Zoute Sale auction, where it’s expected to fetch between €800,000 and 1.2 million ($892,512 – 1,338,924)
