The world of drifting is full of surprises, but we think this is the first time a Lexus LF-A and a Lamborghini Murcielago take it out on the track. Sideways!
Seriously though, this footage seems taken straight out of a racing game, where you can acquire a high-tier car towards the end of the “career mode” and start modifying it extensively to challenge the final boss, thinking: “This is preposterous, it can never be done in the real world”.
We recently reported that Daigo Saito’s Liberty Walk Lamborghini Murcielago is ready to drift, and it seems that the raw Italian-stallion went straight for the big boys in D1 Grand Prix. With “only” 650 hp on tap, the Murcielago was a little down on power, compared to the LF-A’s turbocharged V8. And no, it’s not a typo, because that particular Lexus – belonging to Youichi Imamura – has a Toyota TRD NASCAR V8 under its hood.
So, it comes as no surprise to learn that the judges favored the almighty Lexus in the clash, especially as the Lambo looked a little out of its comfort zone on the track. Mind you, unlike the LF-A, the Lambo is new to the sport and has yet to be fine-tuned for racing-conditions, while the mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive setup isn’t probably quite ideal for drifting either. Still, there’s no doubt that the machine will evolve with every race, and most likely get a substantial performance upgrade in the future.
Meanwhile – albeit maybe the track had something to do with its performance – its drifting lines do not seem so sinuous, as the ones taken by pure-bred JDM machines. Still, we salute the initiative and can’t wait to see more of the drifting Lambo.
