In the world of modern-day Formula One, Martin Brundle’s voice guides viewers through the events of each race, thanks mostly to his experience as a driver, overall knowledge and charm.

He’s is definitely one of the best commentators the sport has to offer and getting that much insight about cars and tracks as you’re following the action on TV is immensely satisfying. Brundle also happens to get a lot of his info by driving F1 cars, which is exactly what he did here with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas W06 Hybrid.

The W06 has already provided Mercedes with the Constructors Championship in 2016 and has proven to be vastly superior to its rivals on just about every single track. It’s the fastest and best balanced car on the grid and as of right now, it will still be the car to beat in 2016 as well.

Brundle took the car out onto a very wet Silverstone track and was absolutely amazed at how quick it was. While talking us through the action at COTA last weekend, he also mentioned just how linear the power delivery is in the W06 Hybrid – definitely a big part of what makes this the best overall engine in all of Formula One.

It’s no wonder Mercedes don’t really feel like sharing the fruit of their labor with the likes of Red Bull, who might just take the engine and steal next year’s championship right from under their noses.

Getting back to the action here, it’s worth noting that Brundle did absolutely seem to push the car pretty hard on the straights, though the weather conditions clearly limited him in terms of cornering speeds.

Seeing him actually trying to set a fast lap would have been pretty great.
