McLaren released the full details of the new 570S, Woking’s awaited 911 Turbo-rivalling sports car.
Packing 570PS (562hp) at 7,400rpm and 600Nm (443 lb ft) of torque at 5,000-6,500rpm from the company’s 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 codenamed M838TE, the 570S Coupe accelerates from zero to 62mph (0-100km/h) in 3.2 seconds and needs just 9.5 seconds for the 0-124mph (0-200km/h) test. Top speed is rated at 204mph (328kh/h). McLaren says that 30 per cent of the engine components are bespoke to this model.
The baby Macca uses a Monocell carbon tub in its core and lightweight superformed aluminum body panels, tipping the scales at 1313kg, giving it a class-leading power-to-weight figure of 434PS/tonne.
The carbon tub -a first for the segment- features lower and narrower sills to improve cabin access and weighs only 75kg. The superformed aluminum bodywork is also used for the first time in a McLaren. And the gorgeous dihedral doors have trickled down to the 570S Coupe, bringing a supercar aura in the segment.
The new McLaren 570S Coupe the first model in the company’s Sports Series, with the more affordable 540C Coupe to follow in the second quarter of 2016. Unlike its bigger sibling, the 650S, the new 570S utilizes adaptive dampers with anti-roll bars in its suspension setup and McLaren’s bespoke Performance Traction Control in order to offer more precise control to the driver.
The carbon brakes are offered as standard, measuring 394mm in diameter at the front and 380mm in diameter at the rear, with six-piston and four-piston calipers respectively. The standard set of wheels measures 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear, with customers able to choose between Pirelli’s bespoke P Zero Corsas or P Zero as standard, with the latter offering ‘optimum performance levels in extreme wet and cold conditions’.
“The Sports Series has narrower tires than the models in the Super or Ultimate Series, and the car still has high enough objective performance, but it is also about the subjective feel,” Chris Goodwin, McLaren’s Chief Test Driver said. “We have used the suspension geometry and set-up to create a balance that makes the car really want to turn in to a corner. It feels like all you have to do is look at the apex of the corner and the car is sucked into it.”
The new McLaren 570C Coupe is ready for order now, priced from £143,250 in the UK and $184,900 in the US with the 540C Coupe starting at £126,000 for the UK. The first deliveries of the 570C Coupe will start towards the end of 2015.
