If you ever wanted to find out which one of these tireless workhorses is the fastest down the drag strip, you are in the right place.
Auto Express brought the latest Mitsubishi L200 (or Triton, as it’s known in certain markets) against the VW Amarok and Toyota HiLux in this unorthodox but nevertheless fun drag race. Mitsubishi has made some bold claims for its latest L200, with one of them saying that its pickup truck is the fastest in the segment, thanks to its class-leading power-to-weight ratio.
Having a 178hp 2.4-litre diesel engine under its bonnet, the Mitsubishi L200 matches the 178hp power figure of the VW Amarok 2.0-litre Bi-TDI, with the Toyota HiLux producing 9hp less, at 169hp from its 3.0-litre diesel engine.
We know that being the fastest is certainly not high on a pickup driver’s list of priorities but this looks like major fun, not to mention the bragging rights on the construction site.
