For the first time, the VW Tiguan will be offered in two flavors: the standard-wheelbase model unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show and a longer-wheelbase variant that will accommodate seven passengers.

Expected to debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, the seven-seat VW Tiguan will target the US market first and foremost, as seven-seat SUVs are very popular Stateside. However, VW will likely sell the longer Tiguan in other markets as well, including the Middle East, China and Europe.

The model will not only share underpinnings with the short-wheelbase Tiguan, it will look very similar too. As this rendering from Remco Meulendijk anticipates, the seven-seater VW Tiguan will feature a longer third lateral window so that passengers in the third row will be able to see outside.

The added length appears to work in the Tiguan’s favor, with the longer model sporting a more fluid and elegant profile, don’t you think?
