The Mercedes-Benz E-Class W212 has been flying under the radar lately due to the fact that it’s soon to be replaced by the W213, though the screaming E63 AMG version can hardly ever go unnoticed.
The super saloon landscape has been changing a lot faster than expected ever since Tesla came out with the Model S P85D and Dodge started selling the Charger Hellcat.
These two models have been on the tip of everyone’s tongue and trusted “oldies” like the BMW M5 F10 or the W212 E63 AMG have taken a backseat heading into 2016.
But that’s OK. Just because things are moving forward at an unprecedented pace, with everybody looking to create the next best hybrid or EV model, doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate good old fashioned Euro-muscle when we see it.
This, by the way, is the entry-level E63 AMG, which means no 4MATIC system and no additional power like with the ‘S’ version. Again, that’s OK. It’s still a wicked-fast car thanks to its 557 PS twin-turbo V8 engine, which also happens to be good for 720 Nm (531 lb-ft) of torque.
It won’t hit 100 km/h in under 4 seconds like the P85D or the Hellcat, but 4.2 seconds isn’t exactly what anybody would call boring, especially in a rear-wheel drive car.
Another thing that’s great about this particular E63 is how well it looks in this small but soulful photoshoot. It’s wearing a set of P108 HRE wheels with a Satin Black finish, blending in perfectly with the aesthetics of the car as well as its surroundings.
It’s the same 5 twin-spoke design we’ve seen on this Gemballa Mirage GT back in February, except that instead of yellow calipers, the Merc is rocking red ones.
