In Subaru’s own words, their new WRX ST S207 “aims to be the world’s most enjoyable vehicle, providing a feel-good experience to all those who travel in it regardless of road conditions and enhancing driver skill”.

That’s a hefty claim to make, and one we won’t be able to verify as Subaru will offer only 400 units of the WRX STI-based model exclusively in the Land of the Rising Sun. In essence, Subaru’s STI division took the performance sedan and sprinkled it with engine, chassis and design upgrades.

Power comes from a tuned version of the JDM model’s 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four that gains 20PS and 38Nm for a total of 328PS (324hp) at 7,200 rpm and 431Nm (318 lb-ft) of torque delivered between 3,200–4,800 rpm.

There’s also a quicker steering gear ratio of 11:1, a new flexible tower bar, DampMatic II front suspension with adjustable damping (a first for a Japanese carmaker), front-rear Active Torque Vectoring, enhanced Brembo 6-pot brakes in front and 4-pot brakes at the rear with drilled rotors, and specially designed 255/35R19 performance tires.

Visually, the S207 stands out from its lesser siblings through the 19-inch black wheels, an exclusive large front apron, a mesh grille with red accents that are also found on the rear bumper, and black side garnish. Inside, the car get exclusive STI-spec Recaro front bucket seats and customized sports instruments. As an option limited to 200 of the 400 cars, you can get the Nurburgring 24-hour race-inspired “NBR Challenge Package” with the unique dry carbon rear spoiler.

The S207 will be available in only four colors, WR Blue Pearl, Crystal White Pearl, Crystal Black Silica and the pictured “NBR Challenge Package Yellow Edition”, which will be limited to 100 units. Deliveries in Japan begin in March of 2016.
