Cars going flat-out on unrestricted parts of German autobahns is a common sight. It’s no surprise then that the driver of a Ferrari FF took the chance to stretch the V12-engined Prancing Horse’s legs on a no-speed-limits zone of the A3.

Even on the best roads, in one of the world’s best supercars, though, things can get out of control. Sadly, this time the consequences were tragic.

The Dutch-registered Ferrari FF was moving at a speed in excess of 200 km/h (125 mph), overtaking other cars, when it spun at a right-hand turn, broke through the guardrail and smashed into a tree.

The impact was fierce and the Ferrari exploded, resulting in the death of its two passengers. Reports say that it was raining at the time of the accident, which may or may not have anything to do with the FF getting out of control.

This tragic incident is a stark reminder that nothing can be taken for granted when you’re behind the wheel…
