Previewed for the first time back in January at the 2015 NAIAS as a concept, the Chevrolet Bolt will hit the assembly line next year.
The final production version of the model is apparently closer than we thought as it will be unveiled at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January. Mark Reuss,GM Executive VP, confirmed the news to TheVerge, during the 2015 LA Auto Show.
The Consumer Electronics Show was originally intended to present the latest electronic technology trends, but over the last several years, it hosts a growing number of automakers, showing their newest advancements in the field, so it’s not a surprise that Chevy chose the event in order to pull the wraps on the Bolt.
GM will create the model in a strategic partnership with LG Corporation. The Korean brand will be in charge of the components and systems for the electric motor, which is designed by GM, the power invertor module, the battery cells, the on-board charger, the instrument cluster, electric climate control and infotainment system, among others, while GM will take care of the rest.
The Chevrolet Bolt promises more than 200 miles (320 km) of electric driving range and it will go up against the more expensive BMW i3. The small electric hatchback will enter production in 2016 and it is expected to be priced around $30,000.
