Work is well under way on Audi’s next-gen A5 models, with our spies nabbing the first pics of the Coupe’s interior together with a prototype of the all-new Cabriolet.
Needless to say, the dashboard will be common on the entire A5 family that will include replacements for the two-door Coupe and Cabriolet, as well as the sleek five-door Sportback.
You also won’t be at all surprised to learn/see that it’s no different than the one used on the new generation of the A4, which is to the A5 what BMW’s 3-Series is to the 4-Series; basically, different bodies covering the same underpinnings. Therefore, if you’re in a hurry to see what the finished product will be like inside, just head over here to look at the newly launch A4 and imagine it with a lower (Coupe / Sportback) or no roofline (Cabriolet).
The convertible version of the series sticks to a soft-top solution with the (elegant) styling being an evolution of the current model with a bolder and lower front end, and sharper details all around, including, of course, Audi’s latest signature lights.
The adoption of the new A4’s MLB platform, constructed of aluminum and steel, will allow the A5 to trim around 100kg or about 220 pounds over its predecessor while also brining a longer wheelbase for more passenger room.
Powertrains will mirror those found in the A4 too, including a selection of four- and six-cylinder diesel and gasoline units, likely ranging in output from 180PS (178hp) to 272PS (268hp) for the regular models, with the S5s to get a 354PS (349hp) 3.0-liter TFSI V6, and the RS5s more than 450-horses.
