While Lewis Hamilton walked away with the drivers championship for the 2015 Formula One season, 18-year-old Max Verstappen managed to claim three awards for his performance this year.
At the 2015 FIA Awards, Verstappen, who is the youngest Formula One driver ever, was named Rookie of the Year. Additionally, he walked away with the Personality of the Year and Action of the Year awards. The latter was particularly noteworthy, as it celebrated Verstappen’s incredible passing move at the Belgian Grand Prix.
During the race, Verstappen overtook Felipe Nasr’s Sauber at the famous Blanchimont corner at over 200 mph (320 km/h). Despite being pushed wide and onto the curbs, Verstappen remained committed to the risky maneuver and managed to get past Nasr at the final chicane of the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
The Dutch rookie is the first driver in Formula One history to have taken home more than a single non-championship-related award at the particular event.
After being confirmed to have retained his seat with Toro Rosso for 2016, we expect to much more of the talented young driver in the coming years.
