SsangYong has announced a series of upgrades for the Rexton in the UK, which is currently available for order.
The South Korean brand says that their flagship SUV now has an upgraded Euro 6 compliant engine, the 2.2-liter e-XDi220 diesel, replacing the previous 2.0-liter unit. It produces 178PS (176hp) and 400Nm (295lb-ft) of torque. Maximum torque figure is delivered from 1,400rpm and maintained up to 2,800rpm, while CO2 emissions were dropped from 196g/km to 184g/km.
SsangYong offers a transmission choice of a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic, which is signed by Mercedes-Benz, with low range available for off-roading, that splits the torque equally between the front and rear axles to provide all round traction, while ensuring optimum grip on difficult terrains.
The 2016 SsangYong Rexton is built on a steel ladder chassis, with a 3-tonne towing capacity, featuring a double wishbone and coil spring suspension on the front and a five link rigid axle with coil springs at the rear. On the mid-range EX automatic and the range-topping ELX, the automaker added a multi-link rear suspension for a more comfortable ride.
“This is a significant step up for the Rexton. The power upgrade and new 7-speed automatic bring greater refinement, while the car continues to deliver unrivaled levels of equipment for the price, and is backed by a comprehensive 5 year limitless mileage warranty for complete peace of mind“, said the CEO of SsangYong Motors UK, Paul Williams.
The updated flagship SUV comes in a five- or seven-seat configuration and the company offers the top-of-the-line ELX with features such as 18-inch Diamond cut alloy wheels, LED DRLs, front and rear parking sensors, beige/grey leather interior, new multi-function leather wrapped steering wheel, satellite navigation system, heated rear seats, auto-dimming rearview mirror and others.
All SsangYong models get a 5-year limitless mileage warranty. Full pricing info and specs, for the UK market are available below.
