At the Consumer Electronics Show 2016, a new electric vehicle targeting the work of Tesla will be unveiled. Rather than having to deal with the might of large European automakers like Audi and BMW however, Tesla is set to be challenged by a new electric vehicle start-up dubbed Faraday Future.

Based in California, just like Tesla, Faraday Future is being led by a number of former senior Tesla employees as well as Richard Kim, responsible for designing both the BMW i3 and i8. What’s more, designers from the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini, BMW and Audi have all been recruited by Faraday Future and by the end of the year, the secretive company is hoping to have 500 employees. It certainly isn’t messing around.

Its first model is expected to rival the Tesla Model S, but based on teaser images and renderings, it could in fact adopt more of a crossover shape. Its design aside, power will be provided by a battery pack offering 15 per cent more capacity than the Model S’ available 85 kW/hr system. Incredibly, the company has revealed that this model will be just the first in a possible seven-car range.

What’s more, Faraday Future is in the midst of creating a large factory worth around $1 billion. Some claim that Faraday could be receiving backing from Apple but those reports remain unverified.

The company says that it “will launch with fully electric vehicles that will offer smart and seamless connectivity to the outside world.”
