The newly formed American electric automaker Faraday Future has some very ambitious plans for the, well, future. Beyond its aim of launching an electric car offensive to take the fight to Tesla, it has revealed that it will construct a US $1 billion factory in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Tesla is currently constructing its very own $5 billion gigafactory in Reno, not too far from Las Vegas. Unlike this one though, which will only produce lithium-ion batteries, Faraday Future’s Nevada facility is likely to be responsible for producing the marque’s impending range of vehicles from start to finish.

Earlier in the month, Faraday revealed that at January’s CES 2016 (fittingly held in Las Vegas) it will unveil a concept version of its very first electric car. Details about this initial model are limited, but based on initial teaser images, it appears to look like a crossover, pointing at a rival to the Model X that’ll make the most of the booming SUV market.

Whatever the case may be, it is tipped to have a battery pack with 15 per cent greater capacity that the 85 kW/hr system available for the Model S and Model X.

Faraday Future might be an automotive start-up, but it is actually has lots of financial backing, almost 500 employees and is being led by a selection of former Tesla employees. It also has designers from Lamborghini, BMW, Audi and Ferrari – and that’s a good sign…
