While this may look like an unfair fight, the Mercedes-AMG GT S is actually lighter and has just as much torque as the Nissan GT-R NISMO. But is it faster?
That’s a very good question, and one that we’re glad we can know the answer to. These are two very different cars, despite whatever technical or practical similarities one might conjure up. The truth is, you have to know exactly what type of supercar you want to have and what type of driver you are before deciding on which of these two machines is right for you.
Now that we’ve all (hopefully) picked sides, let’s jump right in and see what the specs have to say.
Right off the bat, the GT-R NISMO is flexing its 600 PS 3.8-liter turbocharged V6 engine, which also produces 652 Nm (480 lb-ft) of torque. The car weighs roughly 1,798 kg (3,963 lbs) which helps it achieve a top speed of 315 km/h (195 mph) and hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 2.8 seconds from a dead stop.
The Mercedes-AMG GT S is of course good for 510 PS, 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque and weighs just 1,645 kg (3,626 lbs). As you can see, peak torque is practically identical, and in terms of weight, the Merc looks much better on paper.
Also “on paper”, the AMG GT S will reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.8 seconds (yes a full second slower than the GT-R NISMO), though its top speed is a very impressive 310 km/h (192 mph) – not too far off from the Japanese supercar.
Without giving anything away, we should mention that the cars in this video will race twice and the second race is a lot more relevant.
By the way, whatever impression you walk away with, remember that the rolling start obviously didn’t do the Nissan any favors, since we know few cars can match it when taking off from a standstill.
