the 20 millionth vehicle msnufactured at the Mercedes-Benz‘s Sindelfingen plant in Germany, which started producing complete cars in 1946, has just rolled off the production line.
The Sindelfingen plant initially started making airplanes as well as their engines in 1915 along with a number of production-car bodies, but it wasn’t until 1946 that cars were created from start-to-finsh at the factory.
Every single Mercedes-Benz S-Class created comes from Sindelfingen, with the factory also having produced the likes of the 300SL Gullwing, the SLS AMG and currently, the Mercedes-AMG GT and a number of C-Class, E-Class and CLS models.
Given the facility’s history with the S-Class, it was only fitting that the 20 millionth vehicle produced there was a 2016 S500 Plug-In Hybrid painted in Obsidian Black.
Discussing the momentous occasion, chairman of the board of management of Daimler AG and head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Dr. Dieter Zetsche, said: “The twenty-million cars from the Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen would stretch two and a half times around the world. For Mercedes-Benz, this jubilee is an historic number. Each of these twenty million vehicles stands for a satisfied customer – that is a great evidence of the trust placed in our brand. At the same time, it obliges us to continue in the same way and to not reduce our efforts.”
In 2014, the 26,000 staff of the Sindelfingen plant were responsible for producing 367,313 cars.
