Sometimes, you don’t even need to be speeding in order to get in trouble during winter conditions, which is exactly what happened to the driver of this Opel Corsa.
The weather conditions are what they are. During zero or even sub-zero temperatures (Celsius), slush can easily form on the roads. The guy behind the wheel of that green Corsa was probably caught off-guard, which is more or less understandable considering there was already a car right in front of him obstructing his visibility.
On the other hand, all of these cars were traveling particularly close to each other, which is never a good idea, especially when there isn’t much traction on the road.
Bottom line, the driver lost control of his car almost as soon as he hit the slush. Tough to say whether he could have done something about it once the car started sliding around, but what ultimately ended up happening was unexpectedly dramatic. The Corsa went off the road and into a ditch, flipping over – which granted, was a more positive scenario than hitting one of those light poles.
The only way to avoid something like that from happening is to drive slowly and carefully and if you have to, try to even keep it way under the speed limit. Once you hit the slush, make sure not to slam the brakes because you might lose what very little stability you had.
Oh, the one thing we definitely don’t know regarding this particular incident is if the car was wearing winter tires.
